1337 190th Street

Chuck got the mailbox and the flag up on Sunday so we are officially living here!!! Also, on Sunday we spent some time at the end of the driveway by the mailbox. This area had become home to dozens of dandelions and thistles. And creeping charlie had killed the clematis on the trellis and was choking the 2 bushes by the light pole. Looks nice now!

Finally, we're at the final stage of moving. We're sleeping and eating here. The kitchen, bedroom, and PC are completely moved in. Now I just have the daily 'dumping' in the living room to sort thru. Most of it requires some sorting and thinking about where I want to put it. All of our LR furniture is still at the old house so that leaves this room empty to serve as a holding place. I can do it at my leisure and that's what I need right now. I'm pretty wore out getting to this point.

I have a temporary sewing room set up in the
sunroom. It's small, but bright and sunny and
ready for me to use on those days when I just
need a break from the moving. I can look out at
the back garden and pretend it's not 90 percent
humidity!!

I got the baby quilt back from my quilter on Saturday. If you enlarge the picture you can see what a wonderful job she does! Angie asked me several months ago (before acreage) if I would do 2 quilts for some friends of theirs. I'm always pleased and honored when she asks me and wouldn't dream of telling her no. However, I kind put it out of my mind because she didn't need them for awhile. I did have a plan for this one. It's made from blocks that came from the Fresh Laundry quilt I made for one of the bedrooms this spring. Most of the work was already; I just had to sew it together. Hard to find a good backdrop for this picture as all the walls here are white and the quilt is cream. It's really cute and I will save this pattern to make again.

Our first landscape area cleaned up! It's just outside the back door of the garage. A small 4x4 piece of cement where we can sit while we grill! The stepping stones were there but buried under a huge patch of ground cover. The only things left of the original plantings are 3 barberry bushes and these purple coneflowers that are still trying to bloom. I don't know if the sun is right or not time will tell. Now if the weather would just cool off a little we could enjoy some outdoor time in the evenings.

That's it for now. Next time I'll have more pictures of the latest perennials that are in bloom.

UNCLE!!!!

I thought I could do it, but I can't. So, I GIVE UP!!!! I can't keep this house looking picture-perfect and ready for a showing every day and get anything done at the 'farm'. We've abandoned our previous plan of making the move as stress-free as possible. It just is NOT possible to do that. So this weekend, we're moving a bed and a table and chairs and a couple of TV chairs from the family room, and all the food and dishes to the acreage. That way I can get up in the morning and start right in with a garden project there and maybe wait until lunch to make the beds and do the dishes. The way it's been I'm missing out on the coolest part of the day. But the main garden is looking good and we're ready to move a new trellis in. I bought 2 beautiful honeysuckle vines to plant on either side last week and wouldn't you know it, the deer came along and ate all the vines off!!!! The plants will survive; I got my trusty Liquid Fence out and sprayed. I've always had good luck using that product as a deterrent. I'm busy tho' trying to keep up with researching the different flowers. I'm going to have to move some of the iris in order to plant the honeysuckle so I need to find out when I can do that.

The weather has been against us. This heat just does me in and I can't move by noon!!! We've made a lot of progress, but I haven't even taken pictures lately. I'm weeding in the morning and coming home and packing in the afternoons. After a week, we almost have the storage room cleaned out.

My sewing room will have to wait until we get the new floor installed in my new sewing room. That won't be until the end of June. In the mean time - I'm moving my PC and office stuff this weekend but won't have a chance to get things hooked up until I have a couple of rainy days.

Today it's raining so I'm finishing up a baby quilt I promised to my daughter to give as a gift for a June baby. I actually forgot about it until last night. I already had a pattern in mind and some blocks I can use from a left over quilt. Also making strawberry jam. But I realized I moved all my empty jam jars to the other place.

Everything will work out. I did get shelf liner in all the new cupboards so I'm ready to get that stuff out of here. Things will mellow after this weekend.

WE'RE STILL STANDING!!!!!
